Star Wars: A New Hope Lego Chess

In one word, amazing!  I really digg this chess set.  Now that's not just because I'm a lego/warz fan,  I like it more because when I was a kid I used to love board games.  Since computers came along, however, I never even play board games anymore let alone look at them.  This Lego and Star Wars inspired version of chess has made me think about all those forgotten games that were replace by the awesomeness of computers plus the internet.

This is a Star Wars: A New Hope Lego Chess set. It was built in April and May of 2009 and debuted at Star Wars Days at Legoland California. [flickr]

Home Made Submarine

Submarines have got to be one of the coolest inventions of all times, and having an hobby that involves submarines is pretty awesome.  Now, I can't even begin to image the amount of work that would go into making a sub on your own. I can only assume it'd be a monumental effort for a hobbyist.  Damn if you don't kill yourself trying the thing out.

This impressive underwater vehicle was built by a man living in St-Petersburg, Russia. It is officially registered as the smallest submarine in the country and what is most impressive is that it can travel underwater from St-Petersburg to Helsinky and back, without having to make any stops.
This one man, home-made submarine reaches a top-speed of four knots. Not bad!
