Solar Powered Air Conditioner

You're probably wonder why the hell I'm showing you an air conditioner.  Summer's frikken over for F' sake!  But what the hell, this solar power unit is awesome and I don't care what you think.  I take that back, I love you guys, sniff.  Seriously though, I've never seen a portable unit like this, and it definitely would have come in handy when my air conditioner broke.  Not to mention, it's going to be summer in the southern hemisphere, so take that!

A company called GreenCore Air has released an air conditioner than can be powered by a single 170 watt solar panel. The GreenCore air conditioning unit can heat and cool a 600 square foot room. It runs on DC power, so there is no need to put an AC inverter between the solar panel and the air conditioner. This eliminates the power losses associated with converting AC to DC.

  1. Interesting post! I can see this would definitely cut down on noise caused by the generator side of the unit, but you'd still get the noise from the compressor. Interestingly enough, companies like Lennox are starting to integrate solar panels into their units (such as their XPG20 series) for use in residential applications.
